Founded in Helsingborg in 2007 by Anne Lunell and Charles Nystrand, Koppi began as a small coffee bar with an in store roaster and quickly became a gathering place for Sweden’s early specialty community. Both founders came out of competition; Charles won the Swedish Barista Championship in 2005, and Anne won in 2006, placed fourth at the World Barista Championship the same year, and later won the Swedish Brewers Cup in 2016. From the start the philosophy has been producer first and lot specific, with long term relationships at origin, classic processing as the backbone, and a light and precise roast that aims for sweetness, clarity, and a clear sense of place. As demand grew, Koppi shifted from café service to a dedicated roastery in 2016, refining profiles and deepening seasonal sourcing. Koppi helped set the standard for Nordic coffee. Transparent labels with farm names, harvest information, and process details, open cuppings, and a clean, sweetness focused style became hallmarks that shaped expectations across the Nordics and influenced a generation of baristas and roasteries. Their steady, producer led way of working remains a reference for what Nordic coffee can be.
